As the president of Roofing & More, I’ve been spending more time working on the business as a whole, examining our strengths and weaknesses and determining how we can be better as a roofing company. Lately, we have been shifting our focus to improve our customer experience, and no matter how great our ratings and reviews are, we will continue to work to achieve 100% customer satisfaction (and even then, we will look for ways we can do better). However, there are still many other ways we can improve as a company, and the one that comes to mind most during the fall season is employee satisfaction.
Balancing Work and Life
It can become very easy for companies to lose sight of what is important around the holiday season when trying to uphold their efforts in customer service. This season can be especially stressful for those running a business – attempting to fulfil more orders than usual or complete a long list of tasks before a holiday weekend – but it can be even more stressful for the employees carrying out these tasks.
Though we are always committed to treating our team well and listening to their needs, it is especially important to focus on them just as much as the customers. I want the employees at Roofing & More to feel like they have a life outside of work, and that they are working to live, not living to work. Fall marks the start of the holiday season, and it is important to not sacrifice your employee’s ability to enjoy quality family time in exchange for customer satisfaction. There is a way to do both, and part of improving as a company and becoming the best we can be means finding that balance.
This effort includes making sure our employees are equipped with the training, equipment, knowledge and support they need for the job. It also involves listening. Just as we listen to what our customers have to say to improve our process, we listen to how we can make the work environment better for our employees.
I know 100 percent customer satisfaction stems from employee satisfaction. We can’t make everyone happy all the time, but we can sure try!
