Can you believe that August is here already, and that we are more than halfway through 2019? For me, this year is moving fast, especially as I settle into a new routine and focus more on leading my team and less on the day-to-day hustle and bustle. Time flies when you’re having fun, and that has certainly been true as I navigate each day and take things as they come. This month is a great time to take a moment away from everyday activities and revisit the goals you set at the beginning of the year. Are you meeting them?

Going From ‘Good’ to ‘Great’

At Roofing & More, we set a goal each year to focus on. As I’ve discussed in previous blogs, our priority for 2019 is to take the company from “good” to “great.” This is a difficult goal to check in on, as I believe that it may be impossible to ever achieve complete “greatness,” and that additionally, it is not up to us as a company to decide if we are great or not. Only our customers and colleagues can honestly determine if we have met our goal, but that doesn’t mean we should ever stop trying. A good business owner and leader strives for ever higher, and more challenging, goals and improvement.

As the saying goes, life is a journey, not an event. The same can be said about meeting your goals or running a company. If you haven’t achieved your 2019 goals yet, there is still plenty of time, but now is when you really have to focus and put in dedicated time to focus on the tasks that will create success. Have you taken the steps you need to take to get there?

For example, I strive to keep our goals in mind every day – sure, there are day-to-day priorities and activities, but I try to spend at least 10-15 minutes each day thinking about our large goals and relate those to daily activities and priorities. Are you keeping your goals in the back of your mind throughout the workday?

Even as we perfect our processes at Roofing & More, there will always be problems that arise, and we can’t expect that to ever change. However, we can make sure that we use them as learning lessons and apply the new knowledge to our efforts of constant improvement. That’s how we continue trying to reach our yearly goal.
