Throughout my years at Roofing & More, one thing has remained the most consistent: my dedication for honoring God in all that we do. While of course this isn’t a requirement of my employees, they understand and are aligned with the values that my beliefs have helped instill in the company — especially when it comes to honesty and respect for our customers, and for each other.

Passing the Test

In our "What's the & More For" article this month, I wrote about how a quality product must pass certain tests to prove that it will hold up in the event of a storm and bring increased durability to a home. You can claim that a product is great, but will it prevent water from entering the home? Similarly, we may claim to honor God in all that we do, but when we’re tested, how do we perform?

For example, we once had a customer who decided to upgrade the type of roofing shingle she chose, after her contract had been signed. This was not an issue, but the communication was lost in the mix and our team ended up installing the original shingle signed in the contract. To her, the roof looked great, and she would never be close enough to the roof to notice the difference in shingles. However, my employee caught the mistake and, because we’ve instilled our value of honoring God into the way we do business, the employee informed me about the mistake. I personally contacted our customer about the mix-up and offered various options to move forward.

On my call with her, the first thing she did was commend us for letting her know. She said, “I would have never noticed or found out otherwise. Most roofing contractors wouldn’t have said anything.” Though we always have a goal of offering more to our customers and increasing customer satisfaction, the driving force behind my decision to always do the right thing is God, and my relationship with Him.

Colossians 3:23:“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters ...”
