We at Roofing & More want to inform Northern Virginia homeowners of some newly enacted tax benefits for energy-efficient home improvements, such as replacement windows in Fairfax, VA. Included in the famous “fiscal cliff” law passed at the beginning of January is an extension of energy tax credits for homeowners who choose certain “green” home improvements. Eligible energy efficiency home improvements include:

  • Exterior windows and skylights that meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
  • Exterior doors that meet ENERGY STAR requirements.
  • Insulation or insulating material that meets 2009 International Energy Conservation Code criteria.
The law allows for 10% of the cost of ENERGY STAR-rated windows, doors, skylights and insulation installed in your principal residence between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2013. The cost of labor and installation is excluded. For tax years 2012 and 2013, you can claim up to $500 in total energy tax credits on your federal income tax return. However, if you have already claimed $500 or more in energy tax credits in any previous year, you are not eligible for the extended tax credit.

If you have been planning to make any of these improvements, now’s a great time to take advantage of this legislation while enjoying lower utility bills and increased home comfort. Call Roofing & More today to arrange for a FREE in-home consultation and estimate for eligible products at (877) 398-4555!
